Introduction
A 35-home development on land off Northons Lane at Holbeach. The development north-west of the town centre will see a mix of apartments and houses built on the site which currently has several largely vacant industrial buildings.
CORE scope of works included roads & sewers and minor Section 278 works. The new road is approximately 200m long. CORE installed 300m of drainage, 3m deep, and attenuation tank (270m3) and pump station (3.5m deep).
CORE were faced with very challenging site conditions – ground water and running sand encountered 1m below ground level. In order to meet the challenges of the ground conditions, CORE used a specialist dewatering system and utilised sheet piling and frames in order to successfully install the drainage.
The road formation level was also very poor and CORE proposed a sub-base solution to the engineer, utilising geogrid and geotextile – this was approved and adopted by the client.
