CORE provided civils expertise on this large infrastructure development scheme in Corby Northamptonshire. The initial award was a £12.5 million project funded by the Homes and Communities Agency through the Bela Partnership to deliver important infrastructure works for new housing at Priors Hall in Corby which will provide 5,000 new housing units.
The initial scheme is located within the confines of a disused Ironstone and Limestone quarry and landfill area and required major geotechnical and environmental works for stabilisation of the former quarry area plus bulk earthworks and backfilling under stringent controls to ensure the risk of future settlement is eliminated. CORE re-engineered excavated site materials for replacement under strict compaction requirements. The initial scheme also required highway construction and major drainage attenuation and pipe works plus the installation of utilities and completion of landscaping works.
During the course of work additional work phases were awarded in order to keep up with the demand for new housing on the project. Flexibility from the contractor is a critical performance area for our clients where we often have to deal with development / developer requirements at relatively short notice. Despite the increase in work volumes we were able to achieve all of the original workload in line with the contract programme and also increase resources to accommodate the additional awards.
CORE played a unique role on this contract by working closely with the Client prior to contract commencement. During this time we provided all of the information required to satisfy the HCA as to the viability of the contract enabling them to fund the scheme through the ‘Get Britain Building Programme’.
We also played a major part pre contract with the development of works phasing programmes and schedules, intensive site investigation, risk assessments and planning and budgeting exercises to enable the funding to be secured and works to be successfully completed on time.
